Men in Black, Independance day, Wild wild west...

Will Smith reveals how shocked he was when an Emancipation co-star spit in his face during a scene as he hosts an episode of Facebook’s Red Table Talk. Nearly nine months after his infamous Oscar slap of Chris Rock, Will Smith is opening up about an unscripted moment in his new film Emancipation. The 54-year-old actor took over the Red Table from his wife Jada and was joined by his three kids – Trey, Willow and Jaden. He revealed how an unnamed actor spit in his face during an ad-libbed scene. He revealed: “One of the first days on set, there is a scene with one of the actors and he leans down in my face and says: 'You a cold one, ain't you?' and then he ad-libbed….” Will then turned to his daughter Willow and imitated the actor spitting on him. The actor shared his outlandish reaction to the spit, which made his kids laugh around the table. “I was like: ‘Makeup!’ No, but it was like ... I was like: ‘Whoa’. Every actor on this set was taking it really, really seriously,” Will admitted. The Oscar winning actor also revealed how ‘embarrassed’ he felt being put in chains to play slave Whipped Peter, whose scourged back photo provided the world proof of slave owners' cruelty. He also revealed he shed 30lbs for the film after a photo of him in the 'worst shape' of his life went viral. He explained that the role inspired him to lose some serious weight after he posted a photo of himself with a 'dad bod' that subsequently went viral. He said: “The dad bod picture was my beginning of preparation to lose weight for Peter. I was probably 225-ish when I started and at the lowest, on the movie, I got to 195lbs.” His Instagram photo, which was shared in May of 2021, showed him in a blue, white and black hoodie that was left unzipped to reveal his shirtless torso and fleshy stomach. He then explained how being thinner would help put audiences on the same page with his portrayal in Emancipation. “For me, the physicality is a big part of what makes people go: ‘Woah!’: he shared. “To be able to transition and manipulate your body as an actor is a big part of the suspension of disbelief for people.” Smith went through the standard diet and exercise regimen to get into shape for his part, but he continued to shed pounds even after filming started due to the less-than-sanitary conditions. He revealed: “Actually being out in the swamps … it’s hot, it’s nasty. You’re actually in the swamp, so your hands are dirty so you don’t really want to grab food and eat.”

Will Smith sur le plateau de l'émission "The Daily Show" à Los Angeles, le 29 novembre 2022. Will Smith opens up about slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars as he gives his interview since the slap to The Daily Show. Will Smith is opening up about slapping Chris Rock at the 2022 Academy Awards. "There are many nuances and complexities to it, you know, but at the end of the day, I just - I lost it," Smith told host Trevor Noah. Smith added: "I guess what I would say, you just never know what somebody's going through."You just don't know what's going on with people. And I was going through something that night. Not that that justifies my behavior at all." Smith slapped Rock at the March 27, 2022, ceremony shortly before his win for Best Actor, when he walked onstage and hit the comedian on live TV for making a joke about Pinkett Smith's shaved head. (Jada, 51, lives with alopecia.) Smith also revealed the impact the events had on those closest to him - including his young nephew Dom, 9, who ‘stayed up late to see his Uncle Will’ at the 94th Academy Awards. "Why did you hit that man, Uncle Will?" he said Dom asked him when he got home. Wiping away tears and joking that Noah was making him have an ‘Oprah moment’, Smith added: "We just got to be nice to each other, man. It's hard. And I guess the thing that's the most painful for me is I took my heart and I made it hard for other people. It was a lot of things. It was the little boy watching his mother beat up his father. All of that bubbled up in that moment. You know, just, that's not who I want to be. I was gone. That was a rage that had been bottled for a really long time." Smith added in reference to Noah describing the awards show as one of the ‘best and worst’ nights of the actor's life: "I have no independent recollection. Yeah, that was a horrific night, as you can imagine.”

Will Smith publicly apologises for slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars. "Chris, I apologize to you," Smith said. "My behavior was unacceptable, and I'm here whenever you're ready to talk. I want to apologize to Chris' mother. I saw an interview that Chris' mother did and, you know, that was one of the things about that moment – I just didn't realise, I wasn't thinking, but how many people got hurt in that moment. So I want to apologize to Chris' mother. I want to apologize to Chris' family, specifically Tony Rock. You know, we had a great relationship, Tony Rock was my man, and this is probably irreperable." "I spent the last three months replaying and understanding the nuances and the complexities of what happened in that moment, and I'm not going to try and unpack all of that right now, but I can say to all of you, there is no part of me that thinks that was the right way to behave in that moment. There's no part of me that thinks that's the optimal way to handle a feeling of disrespect, or insults". Los Angeles. July 29th, 2022.
