Après les deux récompenses aux New York Film Critics Circle, le film The Artist de Michel Hazanavicius avec Jean Dujardin est en route pour les Independent Spirit Awards, une cérémonie dédiée aux films indépendants. Le film qui a bien commencé au box-office US semble en bonne voie pour être représenté aux Oscars 2012 le 26 février 2012 à Los Angeles. The Artist sera certainement LE film français qui s’imposera dans la plupart des cérémonies américaines et autres. Après un prix d’interprétation au Festival de Cannes et deux récompenses décernées par les critiques new-yorkais, The Artist vient de recevoir quatre nominations aux Independent Spirit Awards, cette cérémonie qui récompense le cinéma indépendant, c’est-à-dire produit en dehors des grands studios.
Les deux grands films en compétition pour la cérémonie 2011 des Independent Spirit Awards sont donc The Artist et le film Drive avec Ryan Gosling. The Artist compile quatre nominations dans les catégories Meilleur film, Meilleur réalisateur, Meilleur scénario et Meilleur acteur.
Jean Dujardin sera opposé dans sa catégorie à Ryan Gosling et Michael Shannon notamment. Côté meilleur film, on retrouve 50/50, Beginners, Drive, Take Shelter ou encore The Descendants avec George Clooney.
